3D television

Many people think that technology is just a static concept and, most of the time, is related to the future; although this idea seems correct, we must affirm that today, virtual reality is no longer the future, but the present. 3D television technology is the best example to state that evolution is already here, these devices are prepared to be released next year (2010), but the biggest companies are already exhibiting new models of plasmas and LCD monitors which happens to be the greatest evolution inside the interactive and multimedia field. Before introducing ourselves into this world and buy 3D televisions, we must first tell the story of this device development; first of all we need to say that tvs have experienced great changes during the last 10 years, from ordinary color televisions, we had the chance to observe flat screens (from 21 to 42 inches), flat screens and designs (the ones we hang from our walls), LCDs appliances and now 3D televisions.

A 3D television model is capable of showing images in three dimensions and there is no need for special glasses anymore, of course, whatever we watch is full HD. During 2009, the most important companies gathered in different multimedia fairs in order to introduce the future: 3D televisions, 3D games and 3D webcams, among other exceptional devices. The truth here is that the technology might be similar but each company has developed their own software and system; some brands decided to introduce this technology in plasma tvs, meanwhile others prefer the LCD monitors.

If we want to go further, we add that these 3D televisions will include Blu-Ray 3d readers, which will make them compatible with Blu-Ray 3d dvd players, but of course, as we have advantages, we also have disadvantages: the price. 3D televisions are quite expensive since they are new and at the same time, we can’t find many of these products in the market. The regular price is around usd$ 7.000, some people might think it’s a bit ridiculous but, those who are interested in technology and wonderful images, won’t hesitate and will certainly invest. News in this field are not over, 3D televisions do not only bring new and full HD images, but also new cables, what do we mean?; external appliances won’t be the same, this product will only work with HDMI connectors. Through them we will be able to watch 3D movies and play 3D games; cables companies are also aware of this new format and will release a special service for three dimension images.

How does 3D television work?

When we talk about 3D televisions we are not only referring to complex images but also to brain activity. The base of this new technology is called Stereoscopy, which consists of creating an illusion of depth over the images. We have a different vision for each eye, and when they gather (connected by the brain), we obtain a three dimensional image. This technique copies the natural vision of human beings, since when we observe a distant object, each of our eyes gets a same vision but from different angles, then our brain collects the information and put it together in order to reproduce a single image. Before the existence of 3D televisions, in order to get a three dimensional image, we needed special glasses; the first models were blue and red, now the market offers new brands which are more advanced and include sound.

The three dimensional technology was first applied by the cinema, we could watch some films with extraordinary effects, we could sense ourselves inside the movie. Some people affirm that these first experiences had the aim of catching the customer’s attention by offering something new, but at the same time, we have to add that the price of the tickets increased, so this statement is not so solid. Leaving these sayings behind, we could say that 3D televisions will be out soon and reality won’t be the same.

Those who already experienced this virtual innovation, affirm that older plasmas do not have the necessary strength to compete with these products. Apart from 3D movies, we should not forget that 3d televisions were also designed for 3d games, a market which is constantly growing and spreading; last generation consoles are already prepared to support 3D images. A good piece of advice we offer: if you are a technology lover, you should attend to a multimedia fair, this is the only way we have to “taste” these tvs without paying high prices. There you won’t only find the latest appliances but also enough information from each model, type and system; capable assistants will be at your service to answer all kid of questions.
